Translators often work by themselves, but we are not alone! Choosing to be member of a professional body of translators is a great opportunity for many reasons: one can call upon colleagues to discuss work-related matters; look for colleagues in specific language combinations to help a client find the suitable translator or interpreter; network; and take part in training courses.
I am member of the Société française des métiers de la traduction et de l’interprétation (SFT), the French professional translators’ union.
On the client side, choosing a translator who is a member of the SFT is an indication that the professional’s experience has been proven and approved, and that they abide by a Code of Professional Conduct.

The English version of my website was proofread by my colleague Louise Normandiere of Phrases Translation.
